Make the necessary preparations

  • The latest iOS version should be installed on both iPhones.
  • Both iPhones should have Wi-Fi enabled and Bluetooth disabled.
  • Make sure both devices are signed in with their corresponding Apple IDs.
  • You should ensure that both Apple ID email addresses are saved in each other’s Contacts.
  • Ensure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are within range of both devices.

Step 1. Connect to the Wi-Fi network on your source iPhone by unlocking it and connecting to it using your password.

The following steps can help you share the password of your Wi-Fi if you still cannot:

  1. Both devices must be restarted if you are not seeing the setup animation when you try to set them up.
  2. It is recommended that you have the other person enter the Wi-Fi password manually if you are still unable to share the password.

It is required to save the email address of your nearby contact in your Contacts app as well as your address in theirs to share the local Wi-Fi password directly with them.

The other person uses their iPhone’s Wi-Fi settings to select the same network as your local Wi-Fi network. On your phone, you should receive a notification asking you if you would like to share your Wi-Fi password. Share Password can be accessed by tapping the button.

An automatic connection is made after the password is shared. For future use, they can access that connection on their phone.

Password viewing and copying

With iOS 16, you have another option. The first thing you should do is to make sure that your phone is up to date with iOS 16. Select General from the Settings menu, then Software Update from the list. You may be prompted to download the latest update or told iOS is up to date.

Click on Wi-Fi in Settings. You can find out more about your Wi-Fi network by tapping the Info button. After tapping the hidden password, the password will be revealed. The action will require authentication with Touch ID, Face ID, or your password. This is followed by the revelation of the password. Your password can now be shown to the other person or read out loud to them. Alternatively, you can copy and paste the password. Whenever you share a password, be careful who you share it with.
