How to Draw Closed Eyes

Step 1

To begin this closed-eye drawing guide, let’s start with some lines for the eyes.

This step will be much easier for you if you follow the reference image closely since a large part of making images look right depends on how you place them.

The lines are drawn as two wavy lines with a very slight slope down the middle.

They might look easy when you see them, but they can be surprisingly difficult when you have to draw them!

It may take a few tries, but you’ll get it. Once they look like the example images, you’re ready for the next step.

Step 2

The next step in your closed-eyes drawing will be about something other than the eyes themselves! Instead, draw two short lines forming the top of your nose’s bridge.

You can add the nose and draw the rest later, but that’s it for this second step.

Step 3

With a design like this, the simple details often end up making the biggest difference. Once you have completed this step of our guide on drawing closed eyes, you will see it in practice!

We’ll add some eyelashes to your closed eyes by drawing in this step, which will go a long way in bringing this image together.

For now, draw a few eyebrows over your closed eyes.

These are drawn with a series of closely spaced thick lines. For convenience, you can first draw the outline shape with a pencil and then add the eyebrow lines inside the shape.

Finally, you can draw small curved lines between the eyes and eyebrows to show the eyes under the lids. This covers our details, but feel free to add some of your own!

To draw them, you can draw fairly long jagged lines going down from the eye lines to form thin, pointed shapes.

You can then color these subtle shapes to create the look of eyelashes. At the moment, these lashes can cover about three-quarters of the line of your closed eyes. This step alone has already made them much more realistic!

Step 4

You started the eyelashes in the previous step of drawing closed eyes, and you can finish drawing them in this step.

We showed you one way to colorize this image in our reference image, but this is a stage where you can take the lead and get creative with your colors.

If you color this drawing with your eyes closed, you could use some of your favorite art tools to recreate your skin color for this drawing!

This is particularly effective if you have drawn the rest of the face from your face as a template.

At this point, you get it, so for this step, you have to continue what you started in the previous step to cover the rest of the closed-eye line.

Step 5

This fifth step of our guide on drawing closed eyes is all about putting the finishing touches on the picture, and you can also add your touch to the picture!

For now, draw a few eyebrows over your closed eyes.
